Bitcoin and Crypto communities
We launch our new series, ‘The Real Cryptos’ this week. I spent time living in a crypto community last year and have been pleased to see another, on a much larger scale underway in Bulgaria right now called Blockchain Valley. In this video we discuss both physical = and online crypto communities. I’m joined by two of my favorite people in the space Didi from the Bitcoin family and Vesa, an amazing Crypto artist.
Bitcoin and Crypto communities, the good and the bad.
Living in a crypto community last year was a fantastic experience. I was surrounded by like minded people and everyday was filled with passionate people discussing how Bitcoin and Blockchain will change the world. They were and are also doing something about it.
The online crypto communities are a different beast. My experience has been one of groups of guys in thier 30s and 40s attacking each other online, no doubt to protect their ‘stacks’ as they are called. I think this type of behavior will settle down as we move forward as an industry and the focus is not only on people stacks. I might be wrong and it really doesn’t matter too much, you can avoid those situations very easily and surround yourself with the builders, the doers. I met such a group recently when I was invited to Bulgaria to meet the people behind Blockchain Valley.
Blockchain Valley
Blockchain Valley is the vision of CEO and founder Niko De Jonghe. The project is a
2million m2 master planned smart city 30km northwest of Sofia, Bulgaria. Situated in a
beautiful setting in the middle of nature, the city will sit in a gorgeous valley surrounded by
mountains. Blockchain Valley has a unique micro climate with some of the cleanest air in all
of Europe which will make a popular destination for both residents and tourists. Blockchain
Valley will utilize digital, telecommunication and Blockchain technology to benefit the
residents, tourists and businesses by increasing the efficiency of traditional networks and
services. Their goal is to set an example as to how the evolution of traditional technology and
emergence of Blockchain technology can create a more responsible, efficient way of living.
Blockchain Valley is an exciting project and we will follow and cover the progress in our series the Real Cryptos and also in regular video and articles. I was amazed to learn I knew many people involve in the project and the chance to meet friends from all over the world there last month was a fantastic experience.
Blockchain Valley is something the industry as a whole will really benefit from as projects can use it as a show piece and the general public will get a great insight, first hand as to what the industry is all about.
Blockchain Valley is also a smart city. Social impact is very much part of the thinking and its great to be involved with people like this in conjunction with my work with the people at Fvtura a social impact initiative. I’ve learnt a lot about smart city’s over the last year and hope to pass on some of this knowledge to this project.
