    What Is a Transfer Code?

    Description

This article explains what a Transfer Code is, and how it’s different from a password and seed phrase.

    Purpose

This article explains the importance of understanding what a Transfer Code is and how it’s different from passwords and seed phrases. It also briefly touches on why all three are crucial parts of securing a Gala Games Account and GALA wallet.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader understands the information in the following articles:

    Where To Get GALA?‍

    What are Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs)?‍

How To Sign Up For a Gala Games Account‍

    Procedure

The Transfer code is what allows a user to transfer GALA, Ethereum, and BAT.

A Transfer Code is the password for a person’s wallet, which is a different kind of password compared to an accounts password. While an account’s password is to log into a Gala Games account, a Transfer Code allows the user to interact with an account’s wallet.

A wallet contains any NFTs, GALA and other crypto currencies that a person may own. A Transfer Code is a powerful password and is the key to control the funds in a wallet. This is why it is absolutely crucial for all Gala Games account holders to write down and secure their transfer codes so that they are not lost, forgotten, or stolen. Gala Games does not store a Transfer Code or Seed phrase. This means that if both are lost, a person will not be able to interact with their wallet.

An account owner must have their seed phrase in order to create a new transfer code. It is recommended that users keep the seed phrase and transfer code separate so, if one is accidentally lost or destroyed, there is still a way to access the account.

    What is a Recovery/Seed Phrase?

    Description

This article explains what a Recovery/ Seed Phrase is.

    Purpose

This article aims to educate readers about the importance of recovery seed phrases and why they are needed.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader understands the information in the following articles:

How To Sign Up For a Gala Games Account‍

    What is a Blockchain?‍

    Procedure

A recovery seed phrase is an incredibly important list of words that serves as a way to recover access to a wallet. The recovery seed phrase for the GALA wallet is a 12-word phrase. Here is an example of a recovery seed phrase:

    Word 1 Word 2 Word 3 Word 4 Word 5 Word 6

    Word 7 Word 8 Word 9 Word 10 Word 11 Word 12

This recovery seed phrase is a unique, randomly generated set of words given to users after creating a wallet.

It is imperative that users write down their recovery seed phrase and store it in a secure location that only they have access to, such as a locked safe. If a recovery seed phrase is lost or destroyed, there is nothing that Gala Games can do to recover it. Gala Games does not have access to your recovery seed phrase. The responsibility of keeping it safe is on the user.

There are several other ways to refer to a recovery seed phrase, including:

    1. 12-word Backup Phrase

    2. Backup

    3. Recovery Phrase

    4. Mnemonic Seed

Anyone in possession of the recovery seed phrase has access to the funds and items stored within a wallet; protecting this seed phrase is an extremely important part of being a responsible blockchain user. The blockchain is not like a bank; if a seed phrase is forgotten or a malicious actor gains access to it, there is nothing that anyone can do about it, and that includes Gala Games.

This is why users must manage and safely store their passwords, transfer codes, and recovery seed phrases.

    What is GALA

    Description

his article explains what the GALA token is for the reader.

    Purpose

The GALA token is the main cryptocurrency used in the Gala Games Ecosystem. Learning about what this token is and what it does is important in understanding how to use it.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader knows:

    Founder’s Node

    What are Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs)?

    What is a blockchain? ‍

    What is an ERC20/721/1155 contract?

    Procedure

The GALA token is the digital utility token of the Gala Games ecosystem. It is cryptographically secured and native to the Gala Games ecosystem. GALA is transferable between users, and they have full control over how to use it. GALA powers the Gala Games Ecosystem. Founder’s Nodes earn GALA by supporting the ecosystem that games are able to run on. The first game produced for the Gala Games Ecosystem, Town Star, has a reward structure where the top players are rewarded in GALA.

GALA is a non-refundable utility token which will be used as the medium of exchange between participants in the Gala Games ecosystem. The goal of introducing GALA is to provide a convenient and secure mode of payment and settlement between participants who interact within the Gala Games ecosystem (for example, payment of digital goods or in-game items), GALA does not in any way represent any shareholding, participation, right, title, or interest in Gala Games, their respective affiliates, or any other company, enterprise or undertaking. GALA does not entitle holders to any promise of fees, dividends, revenue, profits or investment returns, and are not intended to constitute securities. This token was created to be utilized on the Gala Games ecosystem, and ownership of GALA carries no rights, express or implied.

Items held on the Ethereum blockchain can be accessed using a variety of open-source and cryptographically secure wallets and storage mechanisms. The wallet on the GALA website and in the GALA app is an open-source, keyphrase secured, wallet, and once you have created the wallet, only the account owner has access to the funds and items stored within that wallet.

    What is an ERC20/721/1155 contract?

    Description

This article explains what an ERC20, ERC721 and ERC1155 contract is.

    Purpose

The protocols that make NFTs and GALA possible fall under the categories of ERC20, ERC721, and ERC1155. The tokens listed represent items, help conduct trade, and provide other useful utilities within the Gala Games ecosystem. Knowing what these are can help the reader understand the technologies that allow for this ecosystem to exist.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader knows:

    Founder’s Node

    What are Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs)?‍

    Procedure

The Ethereum blockchain allows developers to run programs on it using a language called Solidity. Since anyone can name their functions anything they like, there would be no way for systems, like OpenSea.io, to know how to read those programs. Thus, a standard was created that defines various interfaces for different purposes.

ERC20 is used for crypto currencies (aka “Alt Coins/Tokens”).

ERC721 and ERC1155 (and some others) handle tracking of items owned by various wallet addresses.

When a person owns a Non-Fungible Token (NFT), such as a Homestead from the game Mirandus, they actually have an ERC1155 in their Ethereum address. These technologies enable players to have verifiable proof that they own the content they paid for. This truly helps bring power back to the players!

    Founder’s Node

    Description

This article explains what a Founder’s Node is.

    Purpose

Founder’s Nodes are the backbone of the Gala Games Ecosystem. Knowing what will be running games in the ecosystem is important in understanding how the network works.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader understands the information in the following articles:

    Gala Node Requirements‍

    What is a Distribution?

    Summary

    What is a Founder’s Node?

A Founder’s Node is part of the largest decentralized gaming network in the world. There will only ever be 50,000 of these nodes.

Everyone who operates a Founder’s Node is contributing to the growth of this decentralized gaming network. By running a Founder’s Node, you are working to give players real ownership of their assets and content.

Is all of this information permanent or is it subject to change?

All of this information is subject to change. Those questions with answers that are most likely to change will be marked with an asterisk (*). One type of change that can occur comes as a result of the consensus vote, which node owners have the power to make. It is one of the most powerful benefits of being a node operator.

    What is a Consensus Vote?

In the node network, a consensus vote is a voting opportunity presented to all Founder’s Node operators. Oftentimes these votes will be about which games come to the Gala Games platform, but there are other types of votes as well.

A brief example of this was the vote which presented node operators with this statement: “We believe that decentralization is extremely important, so we are proposing that on July 21st, rather than maintaining the current ratio, we shift the ratio so that the Node Operator rewards stay the same.” What this meant was that Gala Games took the brunt of the halving. Node operators almost unanimously voted yes on this one.

What is the difference between Gala and GALA?

GALA is the digital asset and Gala references Gala Games, the gaming company.

What is GALA distribution and what happens when it’s complete?*

GALA is distributed daily to Founder’s Nodes that have operated for at least the required time in each cycle; this GALA is earned by working to help Gala Games in our goal of providing a truly decentralized gaming network.

Distribution is based on dividing the daily distributed GALA among a point system, which you can read about in detail below. Each July, the daily GALA distribution will be cut in half. In July of 2021, however, that halving will not affect node operators. This is because node operators, through the consensus voting feature of their nodes, voted for Gala Games to receive less of a distribution.

You can see daily distribution information on your account by clicking on “My Node,” followed by “View Full Data,” which is next to “Global.”

You may also use one of the community-created websites, GalaBase.io, by going to https://galabase.io/distro/report/ and clicking on Point Report.

When a distribution is complete, GALA’s circulation across the network will still yield earnings for Founder’s Nodes. NFTs are also a current and future part of the incentives that you can earn from running a Founder’s Node.

    #20571
    KrisVirgo HF-06 |HF

How does the point system work?*

In order to determine how the GALA distribution is divided, we have utilized a point system. At the time of distribution, all of the points are added up and the GALA is split between these points.

Our current point system is listed here:

Running a Node for 6 hours in a cycle: 1 Point

If, for example, you have two nodes, your daily point value

    would be 2.0.

Note: Gala Games is not affiliated with Galabase.io nor are we responsible for any of their content. Always be careful with any links you click and never give out your personal information, seed phrase, or passwords.

What kind of work will I be providing by running a Founder’s Node?*

There will be a “see-saw” algorithm that will determine which resources are most needed by the network. For example, if the network has tons of storage but very little processing power, then it will give higher rewards for processing than storage; this would incentivize additional processing suppliers. In short, the network will adapt to its needs.

Will there be more nodes in the future?

There will only ever be 50,000 Founder’s Nodes; in the future, there will be other types of nodes that exist to support the network.

    Gala Node Software Requirements

    Description

This article explains what the requirements are for running the Gala Node software.

    Purpose

The Gala Node software requires resources in order to run the software properly. Knowing the hardware requirements needed to run the Gala Node software is important to make sure it can provide resources to the Gala Games Ecosystem and to ensure the node operator is able to get credit in the Distribution.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader understands the information in the following articles:

    What is a VPS? ‍

    Founder’s Node ‍

    What is a Distribution?

    Procedure

The Gala Node software is currently extremely lightweight and does not “mine” in the traditional sense. The Gala Node software secures the game blockchain that Gala Games uses for games at the moment. An owner accumulates 1 point per node for running them for 6+ hours each day. No crypto mining, in the traditional sense, is involved. An owner is rewarded GALA based on the number of points an owner receives.

The Gala Node software supports Windows, Mac, and Linux (64-bit required) that has not hit end of life (operating systems that are still getting supported by their developers). These are the current resources required for running the Gala Node Software:

    4 GB RAM

    2 CPU Cores

    60 GB Disk Space

    An x86/X64 Processor

    A Stable Internet Connection

These requirements are subject to change.

(The Gala Node Software does not currently support ARM Processors, such as the Apple M1 chip and the Raspberry Pi 4)

    What is a Distribution?

    Description

This article explains what a distribution is and how it works.

    Purpose

When a person runs the Gala Node software with a valid Founder’s Node license or Game Node license, they are able to be rewarded with part of the distribution every day. Knowing how this works and what is its purpose is important to understand as it is important for the Gala Games Ecosystem to grow.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader understands the information in the following articles:

Where are Rewards Found After Distribution?‍

    Founder’s Node‍

What is the Gala Games Ecosystem?‍

    What are Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs)?‍

    Summary

Nodes such as a Founder’s Node or Game Node are the backbone of the Gala Games ecosystem. These nodes will make it possible for games on the Gala Games ecosystem to run a decentralized platform for game hosting and many other features. They are also responsible for circulating GALA into the ecosystem as well as other game related tokens. This is called a distribution. In the daily distribution, users running the Gala Node software with a valid Founder’s Node license or Game Node license for the required time will find their rewards in Treasure Chest. These rewards do not exist on a blockchain when they are in a Treasure Chest, and minting is required to write them to the blockchain.

This “mint-on-demand” model enhances the decentralized nature of the network as it does not depend on any single entity to provide ETH gas fees for the whole network. In the long run, the Gala Games Ecosystem plans on transitioning to a multi-chain system, which will enable users to choose the chain on which they would like their NFTs to exist. GALA itself will likely remain an ERC-20.

The current distribution system is calculated based on the points that are in each cycle. These points all share the total supply of GALA distributed to users each day. A Founder’s Node is 1 point in the distribution, and is rewarded as long as the owner runs their Founder’s Node for at least six hours between 00:00 UTC and 23:59 UTC1.

The other way a person can receive points in the distribution is through referrals. If a person refers someone to the Gala Games ecosystem and they purchase a Founder’s Node, they will receive a one-time 10 point bonus. The 10 point referral for Founder’s Nodes are given after 8 or more distribution cycles.

These points are tallied up at the end of the day, and used to calculate the numbers for the Daily Distribution. Distribution happens at about 02:15 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

    What is a VPS?

    Description

This article explains to a user what a Virtual Private Server (VPS) is.

    Purpose

Running a Founder’s Node requires a stable internet connection and enough computing resources to run the software. Rather than having to buy a computer and dedicate it to running a Founder’s Node, a Founder’s Node owner can rent a VPS as a computer to use. A good VPS provider can provide up to 100% guaranteed uptime.

    Assumptions Made

This article assumes the reader knows:

    What is a Founder’s Node?‍

How to Change a Windows Machine ID‍

How to Install a Founder’s Node on an Ubuntu Linux VPS‍

    Procedure

A VPS is a virtual computer that people can rent for a fixed monthly price. A VPS provider takes a large, powerful computer and splits it into smaller less powerful virtual computers. People can customize their computer based on the needs of the node network.

It is often more cost effective to rent a VPS, rather than spending the money to buy a dedicated machine for each Founder’s Node. Pricing can vary based on provider, but a reputable provider can offer much better uptime than hosting at home. Many providers guarantee 99% uptime, some even as much as 100% uptime. This is because there’s a large infrastructure in place to keep the servers running, even through a power outage. Some Founder’s Node owners may have bad internet connection or inconsistent power, so using a VPS may be the best option for them.
