Nine Chronicles is a free to play idle MMORPG game that is owned by the community. It is open-source software with every transaction recorded to its custom built blockchain. These facts make Nine Chronicles unique and a project that at its core is decentralized. This concept is important to understand as you enter the play to earn world. We will keep you updated on developments but make sure to join the Nine Chronicles discord where you can offer you suggestions to the devs on what you would like to see in the game.

Nine Chronicles Gameplay
Nine Chronicles game play is idle, once you have equipped your warrior you set them off too massacre everything it their path. As you progress you will acquire more items to craft and upgrade your warriors ability with a main goal of being competitive in the arena battles against other players in Nine Chronicles season tournaments. Outside of tournament play where some of the best prize money in the play to earn space is on offer, you will spend your time crafting items and upgrading your warrior. Lets have a look at what equipment is available and explain the stats.
Stats Explanation
ATK
This is how much damage your warrior destroys an opponent with. Higher ATK inflicts more damage relative to your opponent’s DEF (defence)
DEF
Defence. This is how much damage your warrior can reduce from an opponent’s attack. The higher DEF you have means less damage taken relative to opponent ATK. You can reduce your enemies attacks to 1.
HP
Your overall character’s life. When it goes to 0 you guested it, your DEAD. Different strategies will be covered in regards to HP and DEF levels but at this point in your learning we would remind you to look at the strategies of top ranked players and how they have set up their warriors. Some highly ranked player have low HP and DEF but very high ATK HIT and SPD. Lets look at those stats.

HIT
This is your ATK, Attack Accuracy. The higher your warriors HIT stat is, the better the chances of making a successful attack. If you think that your warrior is missing a lot of ATK success against the same level opponents, you could consider increasing your HIT stat. You can never have 100% success with HIT, regardless of how high your stat is. Being a lower level than your enemy increases you chance to miss a lot.
CRIT
Critical Rate, or Critical Hit Chance. This is in the form of a percentage, where 100% CRIT means a character will always be dealing a critical strike whenever they make a successful attack. At present the game does not have items that increase your CRIT only canned Tuna in the consumables section, more on that soon.

Please note that there has been some confusion that your CRIT can bypass an opponent’s Evasion Stat. This is wrong. HIT ←→ Evasion is always used first in the formula before a Critical Strike can occur. This means that even at 100% CRIT, characters can still miss if they don’t have enough HIT, or their opponent’s Evasion (or level) is too high for them. Critical hits do extra +50% damage.
SPD
Speed stat. The higher a character’s speed stat is, the more attacks they can make in succession relative to their opponent’s own SPD. Once again we recommend studying the top players stats so you can begin your journey with a clear plan. Are you going with a fast aggressive player with lower HP and DEF, a balanced warror or one with lots of HP and DEF, the choice is yours and yes it is a matter of life and death!!!
Energy & Prosperity
OK now you understand the stats lets help you understand more elements of the game. To fight you need energy. In every battle you will use 5 energy points. You start with 120 energy points. Your energy meter refills once the Prosperity Meter fills up, that happens every 6 hours. For the techies out there these meters show the blocks mined successfully on the games blockchain. You can also quickly acquire items by using the boost function which uses 60 or half of your energy in attempting to pass a stage in one go and acquire more items than doing single battles using 5 energy. This saves you a lot of time!!

An important point to understand at this stage of your leaning is that you don’t get gold (NCG) from progressing through the levels, you acquire new items which you can keep and better equip your warrior or you can sell them and acquire NCG. This is then easily moved to one of the many exchanges where you exchange it to wncg then to ETH or other crypto tokens of your choice.
You should know that the energy is the same for everyone per day so your focus should be on progressing as far and as fast as you can to get access to better items that you can craft and sell for profit to lower-level players. There are ways to get more energy and therefor gameplay. You can do this by staking NCG in the game or by purchasing it in the shop.

Items on Nine Chronicles
All the games items have a basic stat, that is the bold one at the top. The items then have secondary stats. The secondary stat is the one next to the golden star. It’s a bit confusing to newbies but 2 secondary stats of the same type are obtainable. You can have 3 stars but only 2 secondary stats detailed in it.
The purple stars represent spells. Spells can really give your warrior the edge over your opponent’s so make sure you have a clear strategy when equipping your warrior. Spells help you with greater defence or attacking abilities.
It is important to understand that if a secondary stat is the same as the main stat it is added up to get to the big bold number on top. So the sword in the example has a total of 184 ATK, Attack not 184 + 53.
Items can be crafted in a “Basic” or “Premium”. The basic items can have as much at 2 secondary stats and a spell. With premium items you can roll/obtain 3 secondary stats and a spell, this is a great outcome. If you get this you can have as much as 3 golden stars and 1 purple star.
If you get this roll all the possible bonuses are called “Great success” items and they are, of course, their strongest version possible. You should then use this item to upgrade as you progress in the game. IMPORTANT When you upgrade an item the +3 and +6 upgrades to +4 and +7 require a fee. You also run the risk of losing the 2nd item during this upgrade so you need to balance the value of the item your using for upgrades against the likely success. I personally look to have a close match at the +3 and +6 upgrades for other upgrades I use the cheapest items.
Character Power CP
This is the formula:
HP*0.7 + ATK*10.5 + DEF*10.5 + SPD*300 + HIT*2.3 = Total CP

Where do you acquire the stats and from what items?
- Hit comes from necklaces, belts, rings and from the level difference between you and the enemy.
- Speed comes from belts, rings and weapons. Legacy Fire dungeon chests also give SPD
- Defense comes from rings, armor and necklaces.
- Attack comes from swords, belts, rings and some legacy fire dungeon necklaces.
- HP comes from armor, rings, and some legacy necklaces
- Spells come on all items. On most items this is in the form of increase stat. Damage spells come on rings and swords.
HELP Im stuck on a level?
Getting stuck on a level can be frustrating. Keep in mind that yout HIT chances are greatly reduced against enemies of a higher level. Patience is key so keep repeating the level you are stuck on which will increase your players level (don’t confuse that with the stage level, they are two different things) Obviously upgrading your items and therefor stats will help you pass a level you are stuck on also.
The next option and its an important one is to feed your warrior. You can obtain the food/consumables by fighting the arena battles. Many players don’t do this outside of season events but you should to obtain the consumable items. These add greatly to your stats and will help you get past that stage your stuck on.
Upgrading your Items
You need items of the same color (tier/rarity/quality/class) and the same level — so to upgrade a blue sword (T3) to +1 you need any other blue sword. To make it +2 you need another +1 blue sword. You only need one godly piece to use as a base and the rest can be whatever — so use the cheapest you can to reduce the waste.
Each level up increases the item’s main stat by around ~10 %. It’s not influenced by anything else. At levels 4, and 7 the secondary stat also gains a +25–35% bonus. From +8 up the secondary stats also get a bonus on each upgrade. In the case of the items with spell/effects, they get the percentage increase in power and in the chance to happen.
Upgrade levels 4, 7, and 10 cost NCG in addition to the same quality and level gear. So it’s better to avoid leveling up gear over 3 unless you are sure it’s worth it.
T1 — White gear, T2 is Green, T3 is Blue, T4 is Orange and T5 is not yet available.
Weak items to be used used for upgrades
Upgrading these to +3 will increase the chance of a sale. Those with NCG to spend will not want to spend the time craft and as such +3 items are popular. You can expect to get as low as 1 NCG per item +3 crafted however. You should look on what type of items the top players are using and create fodder for those.
Well priced mid-tier items
Those items can be used while gathering coins for top items have been popular but this market looks to be decreasing at the moment and can go as low as 1 NCG for many items.
High level items with bad rolls/stats, sold for cheap
These are useful to level up — and in general are a better investment than the mid-tier items.
High level items with top rolls, worthy to upgrade for the endgame
Obviously, your strategy will depend on many factors. We are currently keeping most of the top items we craft and upgrading our warriors stats but you can obviously sell these items at anytime. Paying for top items is generally well worth it but not many can afford them. Many players tend to buy a bad roll and use it up to the point where they can craft their own with a top roll.
You can also sell the food you acquire in the arena battle but don’t expect to get more than 1 NCG per item for that.
Strategies when buying items.
Take into consideration the quality of the item:
T1 white T2 green T3 blue T4 orange.
Then take into consideration the element:
Plain < Fire < Water < Earth < Wind

A superior element from a lower quality item can be better overall and it will be much cheaper to upgrade.
Like many play to earn games it is always worth checking the shop in the game for outliers. These are items that are being sold well below market price weather through a mistake in setting the wrong price (yes we have done that!!!!) or someone just wants a quick sale. We check the market on a daily basis for deals.
We generally begin by search on CP then moving through the pages to find items within our budget and strategy. Follow your own strategy but for us mixing and matching has been how we have approached the game. If you load up on ATK (attack) without enough SPD (speed) or HIT, you will most likely find it tough going. Equally if you are heavy on defense but ignore health, a spell from a strong monster or challenger in the arena might come along and finish you in one shot. Once again it worth pointing out that studying the top players and how they have set up their warrior is a great starting point.
A key point to note is that you don’t need to buy an upgraded item because it has higher CP. You can make it to +3 by yourself for free!!

You can spend a bit extra to buy a great success item (it has more stats + a spell) if you want to move faster. This all depends on how much time you have of course and your budget.
In summary we think the best strategy is to purchase one strong item for each of the warriors available item slots then those with the persistence can over time build a very strong warrior. If you have the budget it is then a case of bypassing days, weeks and months of work and just buy high end items.
In our experience you will need +7 items to pass stage 208.
We wish you all the best of luck and hope you enjoy this game as much as we do. Be sure to subscribe to Hardforking media channel as we make lots of content on Nine Chronicles and we are committed to doing our bit to grow a community we really like.
What to do if you cant’ afford to buy NCG?
As the saying goes ‘’ TIME IS MONEY’” You can grind on this game with no monetary investment so if you have the time and patience, it is possible to generate good returns with no initial investment. You should keep crafting item until you get a good roll. Do this and then upgrading these items to +3 is a good strategy. The negative here is that this will take some time. You should know that currently one of the top ranked players did this and he got past stage 180 with no investment except time. The games metric are constantly changing so factor that into this statement. We will do our best to keep the info up to date however.
Our experience so far is that it is early for the market but items are certainly being trading and there is clearly the ability to generate NCG but you should have a strategy. The main question is what to keep and make your warrior stronger and what to sell. Let have a look at the options and share some ideas.
How to earn NCG?
- Hardforking run many contests where you can win and or earn NCG, check our Nine Chronicles page for regular updates.
- Make sure to do the onboarding activities. You will need an account to start playing so just do everything there to get NCG for free!!!!
Referring people can also give you some extra NCG. If you need a referral link to play the game you can use these ones.
- Be part of the arena seasons
At present the there have been two seasons. Season 0 was very much a prelease tournament but still had over 2millions dollars worth of NCG as prizes!!! Yes the top ranked players get the most but even for people with the lowest ranking hundreds of dollars were still made. This happens with the winning of medals and if not affected by how strong your character is as such but more too do with how many arena battles you enter. This should be a massive incentive for new players or those not able to afford to much NCG to take part in the game and tournaments.
- Join the content creator program
Nine Chronicles also has a content creators’ program. You can earn the token by using your creative skills in creating memes, writing articles the spreading the word about Nine Chronicles. Here is a link for more info on the program
If you can bring valuable contribution you can get paid for it. For the devs out there get in touch with the team from planetarium as grants are also available. The discord link is at the top of this article.
